Policies & Guest Information

We want every Birch House guest to feel comfortable and prepared for their visit. The information below explains our reservation policies, participation guidelines, and what to expect during your experience or gathering.

Amikwag LLC, doing business as Birch House.

Private experiences are paid in full at booking, with refund options based on how far ahead you cancel. Hide Camp may be paid in full or reserved with a $300 initial payment; the remaining balance is due November 22, 2026. Expand the sections below to review the complete terms before booking.

Private Experiences — Cancellation & Refunds

This policy applies to Morning Tea at Birch House, Birch House & Wood-Fired Sauna, Traditional Canoes of Lake Superior, and Evening Campfire at Birch House. Each reservation is exclusive to one party of 2–7 guests. Full payment is required at booking.

  • Seven or more calendar days before the experience: full refund.
  • Three to six calendar days before the experience: 50% refund.
  • Less than three calendar days before the experience: no refund.

Please contact Birch House in writing at contact@visitbirchhouse.com to request cancellation or rescheduling.

Private Experiences — Rescheduling & Weather

One no-fee reschedule is available when requested at least 72 hours before the experience, subject to availability. The rescheduled experience must be completed within twelve months.

If Birch House cancels for safety or weather reasons, guests may choose a full refund or rescheduling.

Participation & safety

Visits may involve rustic forest trails, uneven natural terrain, changing weather, open fire, hot surfaces and wood smoke. Follow your host’s safety instructions and wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.

Children are welcome when accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian. Participation in certain activities may depend on age, conditions, and available safety equipment.

Sauna guests should be prepared for heat exposure, dehydration, burns and slipping; hydrate, follow sauna safety instructions and participate voluntarily. Canoe activities depend on Lake Superior weather and water conditions; cold-water exposure and capsize are risks. Wear a properly fitted personal flotation device and follow guide instructions. Campfire and tea guests should take care around flames, hot surfaces and smoke.

These guidelines are not a liability release. Any required individual participant or guardian agreements will be provided separately through an approved process; the reservation holder’s acknowledgment does not replace an individual agreement.

Hide Camp — Registration & Payment

Traditional Hide Tanning Camp takes place December 2–6, 2026. Optional overnight arrival is December 1 after 3 PM. One registration covers the complete five-day camp.

Registration may be paid in full or with a $300 initial payment. The $300 initial payment is applied toward tuition; it is not a separate nonrefundable fee. The remaining balance is due November 22, 2026. New registrations after November 22 require full payment at booking.

If a balance is not received by November 22, Birch House will email the participant with notice and payment instructions. A three-calendar-day grace period extends through November 25, 2026. Registration and any reserved lodging remain held during this period. Contact Birch House to resolve a payment-processing issue. No late-payment fee is charged.

If payment remains unresolved and no alternative arrangement has been approved by November 25, Birch House may cancel after staff review and final written notice. There is no automatic forfeiture or release of registration or lodging. An overdue balance does not automatically forfeit all payments already received.

Cancellation obligations never exceed payments already collected. Birch House will not collect additional unpaid tuition solely because a participant cancels. Once cancellation is accepted, future payment requests will be canceled.

Hide Camp — Cancellation & Tuition Refunds

Please contact Birch House in writing at contact@visitbirchhouse.com to cancel. Tuition refunds are based on the cancellation date:

  • Through November 2, 2026: Refund tuition payments received less a $100 administrative and preparation fee. The retained amount cannot exceed tuition payments already received.
  • November 3–17, 2026: Retain up to 50% of the applicable tuition from payments already received and refund tuition payments exceeding that amount.
  • November 18, 2026 onward: Tuition payments already received are nonrefundable, subject to applicable law and approved exceptions.

The $300 initial payment is part of tuition and follows these tuition refund rules. Cancellation charges will never exceed the amount already paid. Cancellation does not create a duty to pay additional unpaid tuition.

If Birch House cancels the entire camp, all amounts paid for tuition, lodging, meals and toolkit purchases will be refunded.

Hide Camp — Overnight Lodging

Overnight lodging is available to all twelve registered participants. Four community registrations include lodging without a separate charge. Any of the eight public registrants may add lodging for $200 per participant for the full camp. Lodging cannot be purchased separately from camp registration and does not create an additional participant space.

Public lodging payments are refundable when canceled at least fifteen days before camp or when Birch House successfully fills the released space. Otherwise, lodging payments are nonrefundable, subject to applicable law and approved exceptions.

Accommodations are communal inside the approximately 22-by-16-foot traditional bark structure, heated by a woodstove and open fire. There are shared sleeping spaces, not private bedrooms. Bring warm bedding and a sleeping mat and prepare for a rustic winter camp environment.

If Birch House cancels the entire camp, lodging payments will be refunded in full.

Hide Camp — Optional Meals & Toolkit

The optional Traditional Foods meal package costs $325. The optional Personal Tanning Toolkit costs $420. Shared instructional tools are included in tuition.

If you cancel either option, Birch House will refund the amount paid for that option less only actual, documented, nonrecoverable preparation or material costs. Birch House will make reasonable efforts to minimize those costs.

No deduction may exceed the amount paid for the canceled option. No additional charge or unpaid balance arises solely because an option is canceled.

If Birch House cancels the entire camp, all amounts paid for meals and toolkit purchases will be refunded in full.

Contact & Assistance

For cancellation, rescheduling, payment questions, accommodations or arrival assistance, contact Birch House at contact@visitbirchhouse.com or 651-280-7063. Kaesha Baloch is the contact for arrival assistance.

Hide Camp participation & safety

This is a physically demanding workshop involving sharp tools and equipment, animal hides and biological materials, physical work, winter conditions, open fires, woodstove heat and smoke, and rustic communal lodging where selected. Participation is voluntary. Follow instructor safety directions, bring appropriate clothing and equipment and discuss accommodation requests in advance.

These guidelines do not constitute a liability release. Any required individual participant agreement will be provided separately through an approved process. A booking acknowledgment is not a substitute for an individual signature. Photography, audio and video permission is separate, optional and not preselected; refusal does not prevent registration.
